Carnelian Agate is a variety of Chalcedony. The structure is arranged in fibrous layers. Sometimes the mineral is banded in varying shades. Carnelian forms when volcanic magma cools and changed into an igneous rock. Silica acids that were once gases and liquids become solid Quartz. Different minerals mix into the layers of the Quartz, forming Agates. Carnelian frequently contains brown dendrites of iron oxides, creating its orange color. In the human body, iron is a vital element by making metabolism possible.
Carnelian’s name is derived from its similarity in color to the Kornel type of cherry. In the 14th century, it was referred to as Cornelian. Then during the 16th century, the stone started being called Carnelian. Ancient wearers believed in the stone’s ability to bring courage, support, and leadership qualities during times of battle. Native Americans, Europeans, Aboriginals, and South African cultures all believed that when men wore Carnelian beads, they were cured of sickness and protected from harm.
