Lapis Lazuli represents royalty, truth, and wisdom. It is known to have existed since before time was born. It brings forth energies of the inner king or queen within us all. Because of its strong connection to history, it is a stone for connecting to the past (in this life and in past lives) to find one’s truth and gain lost knowledge and understanding. It also helps one connect and receive spiritual guidance in dream and waking states. The energy of Lapis Lazuli allows one to move to higher levels of consciousness by blending the physical realms with the spiritual and intuitive realms. It offers a sense of “total awareness.” Lapis Lazuli is a great stone to communicate the highest truth to oneself and to others. It offers emotional and mental clarity, responsiveness, and endurance.
Chemical Formula: (Na,Ca)8Al6Si6O24(S,SO)4 - this is the formula for Lazurite, the stone Lapis Lazuli is primarily made of.
Lapis Lazuli is a combination of different minerals, mainly made of 25-40% Lazurite and typically includes Pyrite and Calcite as well as other minerals. It is a metamorphic rock that formed from intense heat and pressure of Limestone. Lazurite gives Lapis Lazuli the rich blue color. Lazurite is a sodium, calcium, aluminosilicate mineral and it contains sulfur. Where iron is present, the gold pyrite comes through. Within the human body, iron has a stimulating and activating effect ton the brain that promotes and upright and honest attitude. Sulphur, which helps the body detox, encourages the elimination of disease and serves as the bodies defensive strength. Calcium encourages the metabolism of cells and is vital for forming DNA (holder of genetic information) and RNA (the sender of information on proteins, hormones, and enzymes). It strengthens the heart and the rhythm of the heart and regulates the acid/alkaline states of the body. Also, calcium supports and strengthens bones. The element aluminum protects the body by promoting alkaline metabolic processes. Disease cannot live in an alkaline state. It also helps normalize the nervous system and overcome states of weakness.
In Latin, Lapis means stone. In Persian, Lazur means blue. Lapis Lazuli is well known throughout history. It was used in Ancient Egypt, as far back as 3100 BC, for jewelry and beads. King Tutankhamun’s tomb was inlaid with Lapis Lazuli. Other deceased Ancient Egyptian kings and queens were decorated with Lapis Lazuli jewelry. It was also made into a powder and used for cosmetic eye shadow. Ancient Sumer referred to Lapis Lazuli as the stone of royalty. The Chinese treasured this stone for thousands of years and in Europe, it was said to cure snakebites and illnesses. During the renaissance, Lapis Lazuli was used in carved objects. Buddhists believed it brought peace.
