Sodalite is a type of Feldspar in the silicate mineral group. It is formed in igneous rocks that are rich in sodium and have little silicon and aluminum. Sometimes Sodalite is formed within Limestone through a metamorphic process. Sodalite contains an abundance of sodium, calcium, and potassium. In the human body, Sodium helps the body store water and regulates water in the metabolism. It also regulates the ph levels in the body. Together, potassium and sodium promotes optimal functioning of the muscles and nerves. Calcium is essential for human life and makes up bones and teeth. It is also important for relaying messages through the nervous.
Sodalite gets its name because they form in sodium rich magmas. Sodalite means “sodium stone.” It was discovered in 1806 Greenland and became more well known in the 1890s in Canada. It was first used in jewelry. Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, Princess Patricia of Britain first saw Sodalite in Canada in 1901. She instantly fell in love with it and brought it to England to decorate the Marlborough House of London with it.
